Athletic Training Internship

UHZ Sports Medicine Institute helps educate and provide real-life experience to college students at the University of Miami, Florida International University and Barry University though an Athletic Training Internship. Since 1999, more than 30 athletic training interns have rotated through UHZ. Our internship program provides unique training within the UHZ physician’s clinic, as well as the orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation facility at Doctors Hospital. Student athletic trainers are able to work directly with certified athletic trainers and orthopedic surgeons.

During their internship, student trainers learn to sharpen their injury evaluation skills by being exposed to a variety of injuries of the knee, shoulder, ankle and elbow. Interns also observe orthopedic surgeries and become familiar with the interpretations of X-rays and MRIs.

The internship also helps prepare student trainers for the athletic trainer certification exam and creates a foundation for the start of their careers. Several interns have been hired by UHZ and are on staff as certified athletic trainers.

For more information, call UHZ athletic trainer Yi-Tzu Kuo, our approved clinical instructor, at 305-669-3320.
