Education Residency
Since 1988, UHZ Sports Medicine Institute has participated in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Residency Program in orthopedic surgery. The comprehensive, five-year program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Every year, UM’s Department of Orthopaedics selects seven new residents. Each resident rotates through UHZ Sports Medicine Institute during the second and fourth year of the program and is expected to complete two projects during the residency. The UHZ Institute residents also rotate through Doctors Hospital for the sports medicine portion of the residency. Doctors’ state-of-the-art facility features dedicated arthroscopic surgery suites and the most advanced diagnostic and rehabilitation equipment. The orthopedic outpatient clinic handles more than 17,000 visits from patients each year, and 1,400 surgical procedures are performed annually. |
