Research Program Overview



UHZ Sports Medicine Institute is committed to pioneering improvements in orthopedic care through scientific research. The mission of our Research Department is the advancement of knowledge to recognize, treat, rehabilitate and prevent activity-related injuries.

UHZ serves as a clinical trial site for new orthopedic surgery techniques, novel implants, genetically engineered cartilage and bone, and revolutionary biologics. UHZ doctors are particularly focused on articular cartilage injuries, from injury epidemiology to patient outcomes.

Under the leadership of Research Director Angie Botto-van Bemden, Ph.D., UHZ Sports Medicine Institute is working to enhance data collection related to patient outcomes.
